How to Adopt
1) Make an Expression of Interest
Please download and complete our Expression of Interest form (pdf|doc).
We require evidence that you are permitted to keep a pet at your residence. This may be a copy of your lease, if it states that pets are allowed, or an email from your landlord or real estate agent. If you own the home in which the pet will live, please provide proof of ownership such as a rates notice. Scans or photos of these documents are acceptable.
For dog adoptions, please provide photos of the yard in which they will be kept, showing front, back and sides as well as any fences and gates. If you’re not sure of the height of your fence, use something like a Wizz Bin beside the fence so we can gauge the height.
When you have this information all together, please email it to us at ccacfpetadoptions@gmail.com.
2) Arrange a time for the Meet & Greet
After you’ve emailed the above information, call us to arrange a time to meet your potential new family member. You can see our contact information and opening hours here.
If you are wanting to adopt a dog and already have one or more at home then they will need to come along as well so we can check that they’ll be a supportive family for the new addition.
While you can do the Meet & Great before sending through the above information, please keep in mind that we cannot process an adoption until it has been provided. As we don’t place animals on hold, this means the animal may be adopted by someone else in the meantime.
3) Meet & Greet
Come into our facility and spend some time getting to know your potential new furbaby!
During the Meet & Greet a staff member will help introduce you to each other, discuss this animal’s characteristics and how it fits with your lifestyle and preferences, and assess behavioural compatibility if your dog(s) have come in with you.
If you’ll be bringing any dogs with you, we will need to see proof that they are up to date with their vaccinations.
4) Complete paperwork and payment and take your new furbaby home!
If everything went well, it’s time to complete some paperwork and pay the adoption fee. This doesn’t have to be done on the same day as the Meet & Greet, but again please note that the animal may be adopted by someone else in the interim.
Usually your new family member will be ready to go home with you right away, so remember to bring a harness or cat crate so they can travel safely. If you need to pop out to the shops to get these then remember to allow enough time, as we can only hold them until the end of the day.
Oh and don’t forget to pose for an Adoption Day photo!
